>> we have a brand new accident on the bay bridge. the cartinez has trouble with a couple of vehicles. it look like the tolls are loading up on the bay bridge. if you are traveling in the westbound direction you will see slow and go traffic. mass transit all run on time as is ace train. no delays out there. here we go at look at san rafael drive coming from santa benicia the headlights are looking light so decent conditions and no crashes or construction out there. >> the latest on the bart negotiations. talks resume this morning while the two biggest bart unions plan a public demonstration this afternoon. all the while, the clock ticks toward a potential second strike. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at walnut creek bart. >> we have a few days to go but riders have little hope there will be a resolution. people here are preparing and

predicting there will be a strike. we have seen the teams of people going in and out of the negotiations but they say not much is going on inside. the union says there has not been significant progress of wages, pensions, and health care. we could get notice of a strike today if negotiations continue to stall then the unions could issue the 72-hour warning of a strike. they could issue that tonight. that would mean we would see bart workers back on the picket line like any were a month ago. the months say the offer on the table is the best they can do. we may adjustments so everyone sees more money in their pocket. the calculations we have run show that all employees will receive a 1 percent net gain and more if they choose a cheaper medical premium. the utility workers in our union who start out at $42,000 will be

attack in san francisco are now in custody. this troubling video show as woman being brutally kicked in the head after being mugged in san francisco on pride week. it helped lead to the capture last week of 23-year-old christopher porter-bailey. the attack struck a chord with the suspect. >> certainly when you see a robbery that is accompanied with a violent assault like that, it is disturbing when you see an assault of that nature on an innocent victim. >> 20-year-old davis and 22-year-old julian williams were also taken into custody and looking to see if they are linked to other robberies. >> oakland police credit the public who helped identify three women that could is witnessed a murder. the victim took these pictures on halloween 2011 and die add few hours later after being shot

recalled because of possible e. coli contamination produced by national beef packing company in kansas. it was sold in 40 to 60 pound cases and has the number 208a inside the usda mark. it was produced on july 18, 2013 and sold under national beef nature source labels. no illnesses have been reported. >> it is the going of august. many families are planning for the start of school in a few minutes. volunteers will start giving out backpacks. it is the time of year when backpacks are distributed to young students throughout schools and service organizations that help low income families. this is the way it looks in san francisco last year. if menlo park volunteers with the family giving tree expect to hand out more than 20,000 backpacks at a warehouse today through august 23 are. injury the grill this summer, beef highs could be about to go higher.

him and ran home and called police. police arrived and started searching using dogs to track down a suspect. police left the seen at 2:45 and we are trying to confirm but the suspect is still loose and if the person is considered a net to people living in the area around the university. we will update you when we get new details from police. >> matt, thank you. san jose state university police say they have arrested a suspect in the brutal oncampus beating of a 22-year-old man on tuesday night outside the university science building. police are saying little about the man they have arrested but he and the victim do know each other. the two men got in a fight and the suspect slammed the victim's head in the pavement several times. the victim who is not a student is expected to recover. >> negotiateations between bart and two of the largest employee unions coming down to the wire. unions could give passengers 72

hours not they will strike if a deal is not reached by sunday night. union negotiators tell abc7 news that there has been no significant movement on three of the main sticking point: wages, benefits and health care. bart says the current offer would give employees slightly more of a rise but the unions say the lowest paid workers suffer the most. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield has more on the negotiations and how riders are preparing at the top of the hour. >> if bart workers strike again the bay area highs are clogged with commuters mostly driving alone. a new survey from california shows that 55 percent of bay area workers drive solo to work up from 2008 when the survey was last taken but slower than a decade ago in 2003. today only 16 percent of workers rely on public tran it to get to their job. if there is a strike we have put together a full range of resources with the latest start us on bart talks and information

cause of a fire that destroyed a home last night. the candle lit the curtains on fire and the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters got there. firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to other homes. crews cleared people from the street, those because of the power lines. >> a student is suing a school district because the administration should have done more to prevent a teacher from molesting students. the 45-year-old joseph martin was put on leave when allegations surfaced he molested a student at the elementary school and says martin was allowed to go back to class and said good by to the students. he cornered an 11-year-old victim and tried to convince him not to report the me lastation. the child's lawyer says officials knew of problems by 2007 but did nothing. mar tip was arrested in june and has been charmed with 91 counts of child molestation involving 11 former students. >> the family of a missing oakland gill says they are not giving up home for her safe return.

the 21-month-old daphne webb disappeared when the father stepped from the car into a store in oakland. there was a vigil yesterday urging the public to come forward. >> i misholding her and hearing her cries and laugh. i am praying she comes back. >> her father did not attend the vigil but the family says he wasn't the focus of the event. an amber alert is active. the case remains the top investigations. >> funeral is held today for a korean war soldier who died 62 years ago at the golden gate national cemetery and buried with full military honors. he was captured in korea in 1951 and thyed in captivity. the remains were identified in may using d.n.a. samples. the coffin arrived on tuesday at the international airport and

gay men not allowed to donate. campbell mayor is one of those men and hosted the blood drive and signed up to donate was not allowed to give blood. the food and drug administration bars men who had sex with other men from donating because of the aids epidemic. he is openly gay and wants the food and drug administration to rething the regulation. >> it is ironic i can host a blood drive but not donate so use the opportunity to demonstrate that there are members of our community that want to contribute of themselves to sacrifice and save the lives of others. >> the f.d.a. estimates the chance of contracting h.i.v. or aids from donated blood is one in two million. >> the american red cross says summer months are a big challenge in getting blood with many donors on vacation the organizers record low level of blood donations. northern california blood services issued an emergency call for donations in juan. donations have gone up 15 percent but they are still short. northern california needs 300

here is what is going on as far as our winds, it will be aggressive and frisky along the bay water in the delta starting at 9:00 this morning with an early start and getting up earlier than normal this afternoon until 9:00 p.m. at the coast, we are going to have thursday at 3:00, which started already until friday at 5:00 a.m. and we have the wind at 15- to 25-knots rolling through. and our fastest wind is 12 miles per hour and 15 at concord and 23 in fairfield so the bends have picked up here and that is why the clouds are making the trip across san francisco through the golden gate bridge and to the east bay which is where they are thickest. from mount tamalpais you can see the air is cleaner and dry in the cool breeze keeping the temperatures below average. more clouds tonight so temperatures are not so cold as this morning and it is back to average and high temperatures this weekend. the cloud cover is developing along the east bay more and the lower valleys along our
